Quick Reference

Wool Rug Care Essentials

Weekly

Vacuum the entire rug surface using suction-only (no beater bar). A beater bar pulls fibres loose over time and shortens the rug's life. For low-pile rugs, vacuum in both directions; for high-pile rugs, vacuum in the direction of the pile to maintain its lay.

Monthly

Lift the rug edges and vacuum underneath. Check for pulled fibres — trim them flush with scissors. Never pull a snag, as it can unravel adjacent loops.

Every 6 months

Rotate the rug 180 degrees to ensure even wear. Sunlight, traffic patterns, and furniture all create uneven wear over time; rotation evens this out.

Spills happen

Blot immediately with a clean white cloth — never rub. Use cold water (never hot, which sets protein stains). For specific stains (coffee, red wine, oil), consult our care guides. Avoid bleach, enzyme-based cleaners (Vanish, OxiClean), hydrogen peroxide, and ammonia-based cleaners on wool.

Annually

Professional wool cleaning every 18–24 months for high-traffic rooms (living room, hallway); every 24–36 months for low-traffic rooms (bedroom, study). Always specify "wool-only" cleaning — never dry cleaning with chemical solvents.
